Your eyes have the potential to be one of your best features. Unfortunately, they’re often the first place we start to show our age. Crow’s feet, puffiness, dark circles and bags under the eyes can really make you look older than you are. Taking care of this delicate area is critical if you want to look younger.
Why do the eyes age first?
The eye area is extremely delicate compared to the rest of your face because the skin is much thinner. As you age, additional care and attention must be given to this area.
Crow’s feet are just another way of referring to the fine lines and wrinkles that appear around the edges of your eyes.
Look for a powerful wrinkle-fighting cream with plenty of moisturizing ability for this area. You may find yourself using a cream specific to the eyes or it could be a general face cream. The ingredients and effectiveness are what’s most important.
Bags under the eyes can be a temporary condition or they could be due to a loss of elasticity in the skin.
If the cause is something you’ve done recently, such as excessive alcohol consumption, not getting enough sleep or experiencing a lot of stress, some short-term remedies might be enough to combat the problem. You could try creams and gels designed to treat under eye bags or even use cold cucumber slices to calm the puffiness.
However, bags that are caused by decreased elasticity in the skin will require a bit more attention. For a temporary fix, there are several skin tighteners on the market that can help while you’re wearing the product. Other skin products claim to increase elasticity and may help on a longer-term basis. Many doctors recommend surgery to permanently remove bags under the eyes. By caring for this delicate area before under-eye bags become a problem, you can keep them at bay and avoid drastic surgical alternatives in the future.
Dark circles under the eyes are another common problem. Sometimes they have nothing to do with age but are a result of genetics. There are a few products on the market designed to treat dark circles. Many of them contain vitamin K. Of course, sometimes you just need to find a good concealer to camouflage these dark areas under your eyes. Ideally, choose a product to help minimize the circles and use concealer at the same time to cover up the imperfection.
Under-eye circles can also be caused by temporary conditions such as not getting enough sleep. In these cases there may be puffiness as well. An eye gel designed to correct puffiness (or the cold cucumber slices trick) along with a good under-eye concealer will help get you through this temporary period. A good night’s sleep will likely clear it up.
